Social media marketing is the use of social media platforms and websites to promote a product or service.
Although the terms e-marketing and digital marketing are still dominant in academia, social media marketing is becoming more popular for both practitioners and researchers.
Most social media platforms have built-in data analytics tools, which enable companies to track the progress, success, and engagement of ad campaigns.
Companies address a range of stakeholders through social media marketing, including current and potential customers, current and potential employees, journalists, bloggers, and the general public.
On a strategic level, social media marketing includes the management of a marketing campaign, governance, setting the scope and the establishment of a firm’s desired social media “culture” and “tone.”–Wikipedia
When using social media marketing, firms can allow customers and Internet users to post user-generated
content ,also known as “earned media,” rather than use marketer-prepared advertising copy.
Social Media is still one of the best ways to get the word out about your business.
It should not be overlooked. Your presence on Social Media builds trust and an awareness of who you are. It shows people what you care about, and whether or not you are really passionate about what you do.
Social Media is still only about 15 years old. The world has changed drastically in a very short period of time. Things work differently than they used to. For one, the attention span of people is not what it used to be. If you don’t have an effective Social Media Marketing Strategy that is well thought out, you are going to get left in the dust.
Social Media Marketing is important in the world of 2019, and that importance is only going to increase. If you think we are integrated into the world of the Internet now, wait 5 years. The Internet of things is all around us, and it is growing like some kind of creature out of science fiction. Social Media is here to stay. The platforms might change, but Social Media marketing isn’t going anywhere.
So what are some ways that you can get the most out of your Social Media Marketing? How can you cut through the clutter, and all of the noise so that you can actually be heard?
This is going to sound
Keep your content fresh and consistent.
Many companies will hire a social media marketing firm or a manager to handle all of the social media because it’s a big job. There is a lot that goes into Social Media Marketing, especially if you want to keep people engaged in what you are doing. It isn’t the amount of content you post, but the quality of the content. You must post the content on a consistent basis. Some content is going to be related to the advantages of your product, and some are going to be related to the passion and personality of your target audience.
One confusion that people have when it comes to Social Media marketing is that all of the content must be created by you. You can’t put your name on the content that isn’t yours and you definitely do not want to promote the competition. That doesn’t mean that you cannot share related content produced by someone else. This is especially true if you have a small business and are branding you as an individual.
Look at the Analytics of Your Social Media Marketing Strategy
The majority of people reading this article are going to skip over the boring section. In this case, the most boring part of your overall strategy is the MOST important. It is also the most often overlooked. You MUST be looking at all parts of your presence, and really think about how you are engaging with people. If you aren’t getting results, you need to figure out why. A good analytics program is going to help you analyze the data in a way that makes sense.
Analytics allows you to see where the breakdown is occurring and how you can improve on it. It measures the interaction of your audience. Are you even hitting your targeted audience? Most people who deploy a Social Marketing Strategy do not realize that the data is the most important part of the whole equation. If you do, it gives you a SUPREME ADVANTAGE.
Find Influencers in Your Industry and CONNECT!
If you are going to have an effective Social Media Strategy, you need the right connections. There are multiple reasons for this, but the most important one is your web presence. Search Engines, including those on Social Media websites know who you are connected with. You can tell just by looking at your connections what you are passionate about. If your business isn’t connected with any of the people you are following or connected to on Social Media, you are going to have problems being relevant.
Search Engines, including those that run Social Media websites, want to bring people relevant content that is as close to what they are looking for as possible. IF you have great content that you are pushing through your Social Media profiles and you aren’t connected with the people influencing that content, why would you be considered relevant? The influencers will trump you every time, and you will never build
An influencer can also follow you back, and this is where being affiliated with the influencer increases your social proof. If people see that an influencer is following you in your industry, they know you are the real deal and not some poser out there trying to make a quick buck. It is important to spend time on content curation.
Vary the Times You Post Your Content
One of the great things about content marketing is that when you automate it, you can post content at all hours of the day and night. I don’t recommend posting every hour on the hour or anything like that. You do want to stagger the time though. If you are posting at 1PM 5PM 11PM and 4AM, the next day, you might want to post at 2, 6, 12 and 5.
The reason you want to do this is because people are varied in their routines. Sometimes, they might work nights, or their schedule might change. Varying the content times allows you to reach more people. It also makes your content look less automated. You don’t have to automate the process of posting content, but it is sure a lot easier than remembering to post it.
The purpose is to put your content on Social Media in front of as many people as possible. Even if you have an automated tool, you still want to post yourself throughout the day to keep things relevant. Be engaged, and deliver the best content possible. Think about your audience, and don’t forgo the planning process.
Keep Your Inbox Open
One big mistake a lot of businesses and individuals make in their Social Media strategy is not making THEMSELVES available. People want to be able to get in touch with you, and you need to be there to answer their requests in person. At the very least you need to hire someone or put a bot in place until a person can get back.
You also must be willing to reach out to influencers and prospects who you know are interested in what you have to offer. Social Media is SOCIAL. You can’t just post all day and expect results. You need to make yourself open to the reaction of your audience. If someone comments on your Social Media post, be sure to get back with them and respond with something useful.
